The Role
Not much, I didn't get a good impression of the company or what it would be like to work here.
Very valued, I felt that they put a lot of effort into me but I don't think I was of much use to the team due to lack of experience (which is expected as a new-comer to the company). However, after speaking to interns from other departments I have found that I may have been put in a department which is difficult to add value to unless you are an experienced engineer.
I was supported a lot and given a lot of attention, but not guided or structured on how to perform my tasks. My tasks were ambiguous and I felt like I was supposed to go and work it out myself, which I didn't enjoy because I wasn't producing anything and I didn't know what I was supposed to produce.
Not at all at the start, then I was adequately loaded by the end.
Not any real responsibility; all of my tasks were improvement tasks so if I didn't meet deadlines or produce anything then nothing would happen. This gave me a lack of motivation and drive, and as I didn't find my department interesting as it was, this did not help my get anything done.
I developed no technical knowledge that will help my degree, but I have built an extensive library of knowledge on systems on a turbofan engine. I have developed systems and process engineering skills which will benefit me at any engineering company, and I have built an understanding of how a company works and how to deal with a range of stakeholders, which has developed my soft skills. I have also built on all of the generic placement skills like presenting, communicating, working to deadlines, following a process.
The Company
Quiet, friendly, flexible, relaxed. Environment was a modern office build and was nice to be in, but people tended to get on with their work so you could be isolated if you didn't make the effort to speak to people.
I think I was given a lot of support from my manager, but not with my tasks. I was left to work them out for myself and nothing really happened if I didn't get them done/he didn't know if they weren't progressing. I think there is poor communication between the recruitment team and the interns/managers/assessment centre staff, because I was put in a department which I didn't enjoy, and this could have been avoided if the managers fed back to recruitment how their interns get on, or if the assessors at my interview made more effort in finding where I would like to work and put me there.
A lot, I was put on 4 training courses throughout my placement and I was given a lot of online training to do and made to have 4 development review with my manager throughout the year. However I don't think any of this helped me much, ultimately because I wasn't enjoying the work I was doing because I don't think it was suited for interns.

I am keen to see what it would be like to work in other departments because I have heard good things from other graduates/interns, but I would not return to the company if I had to work in the department I'm in now. Overall I haven't had a good impression of Rolls-Royce.
The Culture
There was an apprentices and graduates association which I attended a few events for. There was a facebook page set up for new comers which people used to arrange nights out on, and I lived with 5 interns at the company who I got on well with.
Cheap for living (£90 a week with bill approx. - Derby) but overpriced for nights out (£4-£5 a pint), not a student city.
Plenty of bars and pubs, nice little city, bit rough.
Yes, with the apprentices and graduates association there were.
