The Role
For me the people around me made the year. The culture currently is problematic and can impact people's ability to work effectively. Once this is sorted it, I believe it will be a great place to work!
The overall culture at IBM is one where the use each and every resource available and, therefore, the work you do is always relevant to the business. My manager was often an exception to this rule, however, in general, interns are well valued.
The support from your Early Professional Manager, your team and the other interns enables you to work effectively and develop to your full potential within the year.
On somedays I would be working well into the evening and on others there was little to do. Managing the workload so you don't have this unbalanced load is really important.
The level of responsibility has increased since I first started. I would like to have had less micromanagement though that is very specific to my situation.
We'll wait and see!!
The Company
Currently, it is average. The travel ban and cost ban has impacted moral though this will hopefully change moving forward into the next year.
There was a high deal of structure and management to the placements. The foundation team are great.
There is currently an education ban though there are a lot of free resources you can use on the company's intranet and there is a lot of education which is free and very beneficial. Interns have also set up their own workshops for things such as coding which shows there is a sense of ownership over out development too.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Working from home
I have to say they are below average due to the current cuts and the move towards hiring apprentices. They are also not rehiring into many of the intern positions which will create issues over the next couple of quarters.
The Culture
Yes, some great nights out in London. Southbank where the office is based is a fabulous location!
Put it this way - I am in a lot of debt !!
Good bars, food and nights out around Southbank though we normally go out in clapham or central.
