About You
I really enjoyed the insight week. There was so much to learn about Mace as they are leading company in the Construction Industry. I also enjoyed being in their London office! We managed to learn a lot and visited many sites throughout the week - overall it was a very positive experience.
Mace made us feel as though they were keen to work with us if we performed well during the week and as though we were the future talent, which was really encouraging.
We received plenty of guidance and support throughout the week. I never felt lost and members of staff were always there to answer any questions people had.
The skills and knowledge were extremely useful in terms of my professional development and will make me think more carefully about the routes I choose to specialise in with my degree.
The Company
It was structured very well. We were given a schedule before beginning and kept to it - so much information and plenty engaging activities fit into the week!
The atmosphere was very welcoming and friendly. All the staff was happy to help and answered any queries that we had.
We were given many presentations outlining the responsibilities of many of the roles within the organisation. We also got the opportunity to shadow a graduate for an afternoon, which gave me an even more in depth understanding of the their role and day to day activities - this was great as it's not something that is really focused on at university.
From the insight week I have definitely gained a more in depth understanding of the company culture at Mace.
By speaking to people from a range of roles and learning about their day to day activities, it highlighted some of the aspects that I did and didn't like. The information I obtained will for sure be carried into the future, in terms of my career choices and development.
Everything Else
We were reimbursed the cost of travelling to the site visits.
We were given the opportunity to speak to various people at different stages of their respective careers.
Speaking to staff across the board was useful as we were able to ask a range of people more about their role and how they fit into Mace.
From speaking to current placement students and graduates, we found out about some of the social activities organised. We also learned about some of the volunteering the staff do throughout the year.
Yes. If you're interested in the construction industry then I would definitely recommend applying for the Mace Insight week as it is a great place to start!
