About You
I thoroughly enjoyed the programme as it provided the opportunity to gain an insight into Tax and Assurance, both of which I have no prior experience in. It was great to converse with such senior members of staff within the firm and hear their paths of development whilst working at EY.
The coordinators of the programme were always available to answer any questions and encouraged questions as well as the use of participating in the social media competitions. In addition to this, during the case study exercise, we were presenting in front of EY representatives, thus highlighting that each attendee was valued during the programme.
Firstly, during the programme, I was able to develop both my team working skills and communication through participating in the various activities and tasks that were in place. The former can be applied to my university studies through enhancing my ability in group projects whilst the latter can be applied to modules in which presenting is essential or during future work placements.
The Company
The programme was very well structured, we were given an itinerary right at the start of the programme and this was followed strictly, which ensured that we always knew what to expect next. This guaranteed that the programme ran smoothly. Also, breaks were appropriately allocated in which refreshments were available.
The general atmosphere was a great one as it was filled with like-minded individuals with similar interests from around the United Kingdom that were keen to learn. It was great to meet so many people from so many different universities and it ensured that I was able to make some new friends and contacts for the future.
The firm provided useful talks from senior members of staff, which I think is very important at this stage as it provides a sense of encouragement to aim high. This is important especially because of how busy they would be in such a period with 'Brexit' and the election approaching. In addition to this, the firm provided the opportunity to apply early for the summer programme which highlights a huge investment in the applicant of the Discover EY programme.
The insight programme did a tremendous job at helping me understand what it would be like to have a full-time job at EY because of the number of representatives I was able to converse with, who provided a detailed breakdown of their roles and responsibilities within the firm. This was very helpful.
The programme was great in helping me understand the company culture; being that of developing personal relationships and always prioritising the client. The representatives of EY were passionate in the way they described the firm and they all mentioned the same things about the firm, highlighting that the company culture is clear to all working at EY.
Everything Else
I particularly enjoyed the networking dinner as it provided a great opportunity to network with the employees in an informal setting and really ask any question that was on my mind. This was very useful as it helped me shape my opinion on the firm and I was able to ask questions that I hadn’t thought of during the day.
I would certainly recommend this programme to a friend. Before the programme, I hadn’t had much knowledge and experience within the fields of Tax and Assurance; the programme was a great way to gain an insight into those fields whilst also meeting some great people along the way. Also, it is great to be given the opportunity to reapply for the Summer Internship programme.
