The Role
I enjoyed my placement year, got involved with various opportunities outside of my role, as well as worked within a client facing team.
I felt valued by all of my colleagues within my team, however, there were a couple incidents where I felt somewhat unvalued by a team outside of my immediate colleagues.
I felt like I good support, Jon, my EPM, set me up with someone to do shadowing in sales which was very beneficial and insightful.
Taking on most tasks from two different interns meant I was very busy most of the time, however to the later part of the month my work load would ease down slightly. In addition, I took on a significant amount of additional giveback which kept me very busy.
I was given a lot of responsibility as I had customers when starting my role which was a great opportunity to be client facing for someone who hadn't even graduated yet. In addition, I organised an event for 350 attendees, which was a great experience and gave me a huge amount of responsibility.
I developed a lot of skills which will be invaluable in whichever future career I take in the future.
The Company
I flexi-desk with other interns each day, which although the atmosphere is good and friendly environment, I feel I would have learned more about IBM had I been working alongside people who had been in the company longer than me. I understand the flexible learning culture is characteristic of most multi-national companies, however for my first years experience into the working world, it would have been good to work closer with people with more experience to get greater insights into the company
Very well organised - foundation are a fantastic team who set up the placement scheme very well.
A huge amount of additional opportunities were available to interns, and these opportunities allowed me to grow a lot throughout the year.
Working from home
Good prospects available, however not somewhere I am looking to apply back to at the moment.
The Culture
Yes, great social scene.
I lived at home and commuted, but my colleagues who lived in London have expressed how expensive it is to live in the area.
Great.
Not applicable as I lived over an hour away.
