    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Thoroughly enjoyed my placement with IBM. The opportunities that are available to you are endless, always extra activities to get involved in, new reasons to meet people and gain more invaluable experiences. Enjoyed the extra activities I did such as being my University Faculty lead and helping to organise different events. I have had the opportunity to do two different consultancy jobs on the same account within IBM.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by all the colleagues I had the pleasure to work with. I got to know other interns, graduates and even executive partners on our account. I never felt as though anyone treated me any different just because I was an intern. I was always thanked and shown appreciation for tasks I did to help people out.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given alot of support in the first 3-6 months of my placement, even with simple things like how to write emails to loads of people or senior colleagues. As I settled in I was given a lot more responsibility and left to work on my own within my team and allocated my own tasks and projects I was responsible for. However I always knew where to go if ever i had any issues and who would support me.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • In some aspects of the job - within the first half of the placement in my first role I had a lot of spare time and wasn't always as busy as i could have been but this got me searching for extra opportunities to fill up my spare time which was great! The second half - in my second role i was extremely busy and worked very long hours. I really enjoyed the work so didn't mind and gained alot of knowledge and experience.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility from day 1 but during my second role within our account i led my own projects for the client team and had to organise the work I did, and the work that others had to do. This involved talking to people from different areas, legal, senior stakeholders. I enjoyed the responsibility and leading a team to deliver a project... it was great!

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think the skills i have developed will help me organise myself better for my studies and understand the importance of time management and workload prioritization. I have learnt alot of skills such as how to communicate effectively with lots of different people, working in a team with people you may not necessarily agree with and how to solve problems creatively!

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office is great, each person had their own team and it is a very big office but it is light with great views over London. Always busy with a buzz about it. Great to meet friends for coffee or for lunch and everyone is very nice.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was a very well organised set up from start to finish. Everything is very well communicated to you with exactly what you need to do and where you need to be. There are people on hand to help at support you at all times if you have any questions or concerns.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There is lots of online training that the company offer to you - and you can pretty much find a virtual learning video on anything and everything. As for development i was constantly coached by my manager who wanted me to make the most and be the best I could be!

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Graduate jobs are very appealing within the organisation and are published to you as an intern. There is lots of information about what they offer, jobs you can get and what training and development you could get. They are mostly based in London. At the moment they seem to be hiring.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I lived and worked in London so the night life was amazing, always something to do day or night...

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were lots of activities outside of work, there were Campus teams, events within IBM outside of the day job to get involved in, events to attend to learn more and gain more skills.
