The Role
Hays was a very enjoyable organisation to carry out a placement. The scope of work makes the job very interesting and the responsibility enables you to be accountable for your own performance and earning potential.
Hays made me feel like an integral part of the team. I was given my own desk and therefore it was solely my responsibility to ensure that this was a successful desk
The training we initially received was world class and if i ever needed help with anything, my manager and even director would be the first to offer advice and assistance
Very busy (Or as busy as you wanted to be) - At Hays there is always something you can be doing - either sourcing for the jobs that you already have or getting new jobs in if you are job light at any point
I was given the same responsibility as any other recruitment consultant in the business. When a new joiner started, i was even given managerial responsibilities and was an integral part in training this individual. Additionally, it was made very clear to me by my superiors that they trusted me to achieve success for myself and the business.
The skills i developed are less relevant to my degree however the business skills i developed would be an integral part in helping me beyond university. For instance, communication skills, organisational skills, time management and team work are all skills which have dramatically improved since joining Hays. Additionally i had the experience of working within a FTSE 250 Global Organisation and have developed a deep understanding of the structure and world of work.
The Company
In recruitment the average age is relatively low which means it was a very fun and social atmosphere in the office as well as being incredibly professional. The dress code is strict business wear and are moto is dress better than you next best dressed customer. There is alot of team and work incentives that can be won such as nights out, laser tag and free food!
It is very well organised and you are guided every step of the way. The recruitment process is incredibly well structured and consistent, as well as training and steps to ensure that you are comfortable in what you are doing.
The training and development on offer is world class. We were enrolled on a 2 week crash course initially to get us up to speed before moving into our desks where we were continued training sessions with various managers on a frequent basis for the entire year. Additionally to this we had a 3 day Module training session approximately 3 months after joining, which enhanced our knowledge of both elements of the recruitment process (candidate and client) and how to effectively utilise the state of the art system.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Hays is an excellent company to work for and if you are a strong performer there are many different opportunities for you to re enter the business, even in other departments.
The Culture
In total there were 45 Interns in our building at Hays and 15 Interns within my particular department that all started on the same day. The 2 week intensive Intern training meant that we formed relationships very quickly, and the intern community and regular monthly meetings and other activities meant that i made a lot of friends all over the business.
I lived at home, therefore my expenses were very minimal, however from my understanding rent is very high in central London and the bars, restaurants etc. are also at inflated London prices, however it was very expected when working in the City.
The nightlife is amazing, there are plenty of bars and clubs a stone throw away as well as having the whole of London to explore with an ease of travel.
Yes, there were plenty of team incentives such as dinners, night out, laser tag, bowling etc. Additionally last Friday of the month there is a bar tab at the local bar for all Hays employees which often draws a big Hays crowd.
