The Role
All members of staff were friendly and welcoming.
For my role, I had to learn a lot myself which I didn't mind. There was documentation available and I also got in touch with other team members who were more than happy to help.
At the start of the year I had a good workload and was happy with the amount of work I had. This did start to decrease however as there were many changes going on in our department over the year. This does give the chance to complete other placement/uni work, but I would recommend actively seeking new opportunities.
The project I was given did have a good degree of responsibility. It was an important part of the department and needed to be completed to meet a new compliance regulation put in place a few years ago.
The skills I have learned are useful and I definitely feel more prepared for the world of work. However don't think my job role will directly relate to what I what I will study in final year.
The Company
The particular office I sat in was not overly dynamic/fun and generally quiet. There was a separate area where the other interns sat where we could go if we wanted to.
IBM is very prepared for interns. There is an induction for each intake and we have regular checkpoints throughout the year.
There is lots of online training available to everyone at IBM which we can access anytime. The company did organise a few training/development events for interns specifically as well.

Working from home
IBM is a great company to work for and definitely appealing to come back as a graduate.
The Culture
I lived at home and commuted so did not go out regularly with other interns.
N/A
It's a student town so has bars/nightclubs. Birmingham not too far away either.
There were opportunities for further education and Giveback activities (such as helping out at careers fairs, assessment centres) and you are encouraged to take part in these as part of your contracted hours.
