The Role
I have absolutely loved my work placement - the work load, the people I've met and the opportunities I have been given over the year.
I feel that I have settled into my role in a way that colleagues rely on me for specific tasks and I rely on them. I feel that I have contributed to the team work which is required in being organised and ensuring things are completed on time.
At all times I was supported by my manager if there were any issues which arose - both personal and work related. The HR team are also make it clear that they are always there to support the interns and there are a number of people I knew to contact if an issue were to arise.
Super busy. There was always something to do - never a quiet day in the office! I liked this as I was never bored and I could always be busy doing something.
Definitely more than I had expected. Due to having such a small digital team (just my manager and I) it was unavoidable that I was to take on big projects and tasks to take the pressure off my manager. Having this much responsibility made me want to excel and impress the teams - something I hope I managed to do.
I have decided to follow up the skills I have learnt on placement through my dissertation I am required to compete in my final year at university. I work heavily on Seach with our agency iCrossing and I have had work experience at their offices to gain a deeper insight into the world of search and try to figure out what exactly within search I would like to write my dissertation on. I have made good connections with this agency and they have said they are more than happy to help out with any information or interviews I require. Which is great!
The Company
Very relaxed. It was easy to go up to peoples desks to ask them any questions instead of sending hundreds of emails internally - especially when its a simple question! You were made to feel comfortable in the office which can be a daunting thing, never having worked in an office environment before.
Really well. L'Oréal is renowned for having an exceptional placement and graduate scheme - the process reflects this. The interns have a committee which allowed us to socialise in and outside of work. We also had training sessions which were especially for the interns. Also the help in applying for the graduate scheme was well managed by the intern/graduate specific HR members.
I had various online training modules I had to complete which were both digitally and brand specific focused. I attended work experience at one of our agencies where they delivered 4/5 training sessions which allowed me to learn more about the wider world of search, not specific to L'Oréal.

Extremely. I am actively applying for the graduate scheme for when I finish university but due to the competitiveness, it's very difficult to be successful. Despite this, if I am not luckily enough to get a place on the scheme I will definitely consider this as a company to work for in my future career.
The Culture
Yes. We had an intern committee where they planned evenings out for the interns which let us socialise and meet other placement students in other brands who you may not have ever met before. There were also team evenings/dinners/parties which we arranged and was a good chance to talk less work and actually get to know the whole team.
There were cheaper places to socialise near work but you had to know where to go. Some food restaurants were reasonable and some were more upmarket.
There were lots of pubs you could go to after work but we preferred to go into more central london to experience the better nightlife.
There were some sports teams but none of which interested me. I did join the local gym to work where a lot of colleagues went so it was another chance to socialise outside of working hours.
