The Role
I have really enjoyed my placement. I feel I have learnt a huge amount and been given a huge amount of responsibility which I wasn't expecting to get as an intern.
I felt really valued by my colleagues as they would always give me credit for work I'd done well, and they'd leave responsibility in my hands, trusting me to get the job done well
My boss has been amazing this year. She has supported me a huge amount over the year. I could go to her about anything and we'd figure it out. She has also been good at pointing out development points to make me a better marketer, and helping me create a plan of action for these.
It has been incredibly busy. At some points during the year it got to the point where I was incredibly stressed because I had a huge workload and not enough hours in the day. I knew it would be a fast-paced environment, but it has been incredibly hard at certain points over the year.
I was given a lot of responsibility over the year. I was given a few projects over the year. I would have liked to have more of these opportunities, however with the workload, I found that admin and weekly tasks were the priority here.
I have learnt an extensive amount about life as a marketer, and have had some amazing trainings which will set me up for my final year at university, and for work life in general. The skills I have learnt have pushed me to the limit, but have also made me a much more well-rounded marketer.
The Company
There was a good balance of work and fun in the office. It has been a pleasure to work with such an inspirational team, and we all have a joke from time to time.
The placement was organised well. I would have liked to have opportunities to work in different divisions of the business to experience L'Oreal as a whole, as the divisions differ hugely. The map forms also really helped. I even think having one every quarter may benefit future interns even more, as it allows a more detailed development plan!
I was given a lot of training, which has helped me better my learning and development. We as interns were given a huge amount of opportunities to partake in training, so I feel the company invested a lot in our training and development.
I would really like to come back and work for L'Oreal. They are at the forefront of innovation and it is so rewarding to be part of such an amazing company.
The Culture
We have monthly socials, and we also meet up with our individual groups of placement friends which is always lovely. I have also been really lucky as the brand I worked with had many events and nights out, which were always great fun and a great way to network in a non-work environment.
Cost of living and socializing is expensive. I expected this from the London prices, but on the intern salary, along with a London rent to pay, it was quite difficult to enjoy going out a lot because of the cost of it all! We all still made it work, happy hour always helps!
Nightlife is amazing in London. I have loved it. It'll be very weird leaving and going back to the countryside! It's also so easy to get into central if we wanted a bigger night out!
Not really. We were going to have a netball team but it didn't happen in the end. It would've been nice to get involved in a sports team as it's a great way to meet other interns.
