    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • A lot. I've done another one at an investment bank, and I felt I got so much more out of this one. The work was very varied and my buddy made a real effort to find work that would let me see as much of the work done as possible.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Really nice working atmosphere, made to feel part of the team from day one.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There was a feedback half way through, but no feedback at the end. I wasn't given any particular useful feedback to work on.

    2/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Generally had something to do, though assignment of tasks could have been a little better

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A lot of the work was pretty technical, and 6 weeks wasn't long enough to become an expert. However, I was able to do work on a partner presentation on my own: the manager just left me the materials and I could get on with it.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I picked up a lot of technical things to do with Pensions which will definitely help me when I start next year.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Really amazing atmosphere. People still got their work done, but it was an office full of laughter.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • No real structure, and final partner interview happened 6 weeks after the internship.

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Everyone had time to explain things to me, and we got to go to all the training sessions, internal and external meetings

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • While my placement was in Manchester, I requested to work full-time in London, and have got the position.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We socialised to some extent, but we didn't meet many of the other interns in Manchester on our training event, so didn't know who they were.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Manchester is pretty cheap compared to down south. I stayed in Uni accommodation and it was much cheaper than in London; £90/week compared to £250/week. Both times I stayed in fairly central locations.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Lots of restaurants. Can't comment on pubs/clubs.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was a CSR day, but nothing other than that. We went out for curries and drinks with the whole group though.

    2/5
