The Role
Highly enjoyable experience due to the dynamic nature of the role and the opportunities on offer making everyday different. Always learning new things
Very welcoming environment on all the teams I worked with. Everyone is happy to help and offer advice
Provided with two managers, one for your everyday role and one for your personal development. Always providing guidance of how to make the most out of the placement and how to better myself. Regular reviews and feedback provided throughout the year so you always knew how to better your performance or what you were doing well in.
Always had a steady amount of work throughout the year. Naturally had busier times and also quieter times, but overall the workload was consistent and manageable.
Level of responsibility increased throughout the year. If you proved yourself as reliable and trustworthy you were rewarded with more autonomy and responsibility.
Skills learnt during my year have been invaluable and will definitely assist me in my degree studies and beyond. Real life exposure to the theories I have researched at university has reinforced my knowledge.
The Company
Due to the flexible working patterns at IBM, most of the office desks were not fixed and so the office varied from being very busy to sometimes almost empty. The atmosphere was always cheerful and friendly.
Very well organised, communication to the interns was very good and information was always available on dedicated sites.
Training workshops were always available to interns and there scope varied.
Flexi Time
Working from home
Interns are fast tracked through the graduate application process and are assessed separately. If you have performed well and impressed during your placement year, you have every chance of future employment if you chose to re apply.
The Culture
Placement students were very social, organising events together for example Christmas Parties and summer balls.
Living in London is very expensive!
Countless number of bars/restaurants/night clubs in London
IBM have a scheme called Giveback which offers many volunteering activities to its staff for which you can get involved with as much or as little as you want.
