The Role
I really liked the work i did during the placement, it was varied and building towards a project. While there are some repetative elements to the work I did it was always building towards something meaningfull so i always felt motivated.
I felt like any other member of the team and not like a placement student, within about 2-3 months i had plenty of responsibility and was delivering important project support while also doing my own project.
I was given plenty of guidance and training so that i felt very comfortable completing my work, everyone was super freindly and would always be happy to answer a question.
It was set up in a way that you were essentialy as busy as you wanted to be, while there were some deadlines most of the pressure comes from just wanting to get a nice complete project out of the year and not from your team.
Lots of responsibility and trust, from delivering project support to making orders.
I have become a much more confident presenter, have developed my lab skills a massive amount and have learnt a lot new theory that should help a lot in final year.
The Company
The office is pretty busy/noisey but everyone in there is lovely and there is nice atmosphere to it. Free tea and coffee and lots of cake.
For me the first few months were very well planned out and they quickly got me confident in the relavent areas, as my project progressed the amount of support i recieved did reduce but this was fine as i was then confident enough to need less support.
Heavily subisided or free trips to sweden, mancherster and other cambridge sites. Plenty of training and support when needed. Happy to spend money on the things you need for your project.

The company has a graduate scheme which involves three 8 months places in different deparments and many current members of that scheme did the placement program. -Would happily work for the company again.
The Culture
Large yearly intake of placement students based in camberidge means theres plenty of chances to socialise, we got a house between 5 of us and did a fair bit.
Cambridge is very expensive but the salary will let you live well while still saving a bit.
Average for somewhere of cambridges size.
Yeah there is loads going on in Cambridge: sports, sceince, art, drinking.
