    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Overall I enjoyed my work placement, I had a few different roles which meant most days were different and I have enjoyed the tasks I have been doing. However I was in a very small office with an about 10 people in on a daily basis which meant some days could be very quiet.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt valued by my colleagues. I was always given respect and never treated as an intern, my opinion was valued the same as any other member of staff. The only limit we did have is that because I was in a WW team a lot of people I worked with were in different counties. This meant building relationships with them was harder however I was always provided positive feedback from them and able to keep in contact with them.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I think the support and guidance I was given by management was excellent. I was told in my first week that there was no stupid questions and to ask what ever I needed to. I was always able to go and ask for help if I needed to check my work was correct, this helped a lot during the first few months. The last few months of my placement by boss has also pushed me to be confident in my own work and not seek as much guidance and work from my own knowledge.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was very busy on a daily basis, with work coming from many different people. Most of the time it was a good busy and would make the days go quickly however there were a few weeks where I would have to much to do and needed to ask my boss to help because I just wasn't going to meet the deadlines.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was responsible for many different projects. I had 1 which was fully my responsibility and lasted my entire placement year and also had some smaller projects managed completely by me throughout the year. Some of my jobs were admin so they did have limited responsibility with them.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • IBM have a lot of course online for us to use, however there were so many you sometimes don't know where to start. I think some of the courses I did do are to specialized to IBM so wouldn't be useful unless I came back. However I have presented on topics a few times over the year which will help me during any presentations I have in my final year and I think my confidence in myself has grown through the year which will help me in future interviews.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Quiet. I have had days where it has just been me in office which even though mean I would a lot of work done would get very lonely.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I think it was set up well. Application process was straight forward with no problems and information was always given to me. We then had a task Manager and EPM to help us throughout the year. The only issue is that we had an EPM that wasn't based in our location.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • In terms of personal training and development IBM did provide a lot of online training which could be done in your own time. They also set up a careers day for all interns to attend which was an interesting day. However I feel because we were in a small location we missed out on a lot of face to face workshops/ training. We would see messages about them but they would always be in a different location which wasn't ideal.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    International Travel

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I will be applying back to a different area within the organization. However due to limited spaces I will also be applying for other jobs.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • No, I think due to the small location we didn't have chance to meet many people and the people who did work in our office tended to live over an hour away from it so wouldn't be able to socalise near work.

    1/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Rent is expensive but most other costs are ok.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
