The Role
I really enjoyed this placement a lot, I found it was a good mix between working at my desk and hands-on work. I was based in manufacturing engineering and our job role was to support the assembly line, part of my day was taken up sorting issues out on the assembly so I liked the mix between project work and problem solving on the assembly line.
From the first day we were brought in to the office everyone was very welcoming and were there to support you whenever you needed assistance with work. My colleagues in my direct team and wider team were very inclusive and I felt a sense of belonging and use within the team as we were given responsibilities over projects and meetings.
In the manufacturing role the first couple of months while learning the role and different processes I was given a lot of support. The more I was able to work on my own the support was still there if I needed it which was comforting knowning there was always someone around to give you help and assistance whether it was my direct supervisor or manager or a colleague in the office.
The manufacturing engineering role meant that the since we supported the assembly line daily workload varied from day-to-day some days you would be on the assembly line most of the day but other days you could only go down once of twice this meant you had time to work on projects at a normal pace. There was always work to be done but there was always enough time to finish work by prioritising the work.
In the manufacturing engineering job role you were given a lot of responsibility over projects and continuous improvement drives and process audits, these meant we were in charge of making sure they were all completed and up-to-date. We also supported the assembly line on our own solving the issues presented. We also presented to executives about issues on the assembly line.
The skills in this role will greatly help me later in the life. I greatly developed my softer skills in communication as we were always talking to the operators on the line. I Developed my software knowledge as there was a whole range of new programs to learn for the new role.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was great. It was relaxed and you were able to wind down in the office from being busy on the line, however at the same time work got done and everyone is hard working so during busy times the work gets done. Also everyone in the office was very supportive and provided assistance whenever you needed it.
The placement was very well set up, there was a couple of days induction at the beginning of the placement. However within the office the handover period was very short and you 'hit the ground running' which was good because you learnt through experience and as it came. this was the only way to learn in the manufacturing job role as it was based on solving issues on the assembly line.
There were a few training days we went to in the beginning of the placement however once the basic training was completed there wasn't much in terms of training. In fairness the job role didn't require a lot of training as we spent a week on the line learning the assembly process of the engine.

Within the organisation there are a lot of opportunities to be employed in the plant as well as good recommendations if you wanted to move to another part of the organisation.
The Culture
Within the placement there was a great social scene. most weekends there was something going on socially.
I lived about 30 minutes away and the cost wasn't too bad, it was reasonable for the area as that's where I went to Uni previously.
there was a good nightlife where I lived as well as a few things to do after work at the weekends closer to work so there was a range of options.
Yes, there was events organised by the company as well as lots to do in the town where I lived.
