The Role
As the placement is varied and covers a wide array of areas in the business, you are constantly facing new and different challenges. This ensures that you don't get bored of doing the same repetitive tasks. This meant that I enjoyed all parts of my work placement.
Due to the high level of responsibility you are given, you are able to make a real difference. This ensures you always feel valued.
I was given regular updates and feedback from my director which involved support and guidance. These updates were very helpful but at times too infrequent. It would have been useful to have more updates with perhaps a direct leader.
While in store I was very busy, long days were constantly filled with tasks and very little down time. My time in head office was less busy. Project work allowed me to take a step back and think more critically about my work. This was a pleasant contrast to have.
I was given projects which made a real difference to the company. While in store time, I was able to manage and run stores on my own for extended periods of time. This meant the responsibility and expectation to perform and contribute positively to the company was massive.
The ability to manage my own time effectively and work to deadlines under high pressure will benefit me in my final year at university. My communication skills and leadership skills will be useful in all aspects of life, while at university and after.
The Company
Relaxed but professional allowing you to feel welcome and part of the team, but also makes you feel like you're in a business environment. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly.
Overall, the placement was very structured with a 12 month overview of each department and tasks I would be completing that week. Within these weeks, there wasn't always structured organisation. Often felt lost as to who we were reporting to or where we should be.
While in store I was given workbooks, videos and one to one training with my managers. These people invested time and effort in ensuring I was trained up to the right level to successfully do my job.

Future employment prospects are very appealing with Aldi offering a highly sought after graduate scheme. They offer a good salary with brilliant perks. The area manager role is a role that I find very appealing.
The Culture
While in store it was difficult to socialise with other IPs as we were spread across the region. While in head office, we were able to work together and socialise allowing for good working relationships.
