The Role
I enjoyed by placement year as I was surprised by the level of responsibility and opportunities I got as an early professional. I genuinely feel as if I have come into IBM as a student, and will leave as a professional.
I feel highly valued my management and my colleagues, I have a people manager, task managaer and an assigned mentor. So there is always someone to discuss any worries I may have.
I receive a high level of support from managers and the foundation team, and have been allocated a mentor.
I was busy for the majority of my placement- but least this meant I wasn't bored and certainly felt I was needed!
I surprising amount of responsibility!
I developed key relationship building, interpersonal, problem solving and presenting skills. I really felt this placement enabled me to develop these soft skills that will help me with my final year of study and will carry with me for the rest of my career!
The Company
Admittedly, the office would usually be fairly quiet due to the remote working culture.
Very organized, a various range of foundation events where interns were able to team build and network and develop their skills.
A high extent, there were many training sessions available for generalist areas e.g. presenting or specialist areas e.g. HR/design thinking.

The Culture
Yes, I was based in Portsmouth, UK which whilst might be a sleepy city itself there was a tight knit group of interns which organized social activities amongst themselves.
Not great, but with Portsmouth being a student city there was nightlife and events goin on.
