The Role
Useful insight into how the company operated and the various interactions between different departments.
The work environment is very busy so difficult to feel truly 'valued' as the full extent of your efforts may slip slightly under the radar and there is simply not the time for constant reassurance. However, when opportunities did arise it was clear that I was making a positive contribution to colleagues.
My task was very much self led, so there was little involvement from a manger or supervisor. I was aware of this from the start and it very much appealed to me to be given such responsibility. In reality, there was limited involvement but I had been made aware of this from the start.
Work load was significant but while initially daunting by the time that I had got my head around the project I would suggest it was a suitable amount of work for an internship position.
My project was to develop the case studies for the corportae real estate and commercial development sectors. I had complete control of the project, liaising with partners of the company and setting up meetings in order to acquire the necessary information needed to build a case study around.
The internship was really useful for giving me an understanding of the different jobs within the property sector. IT was also useful to see how 'textbook' concepts are applied in a work based setting.
The Company
Very work intensive environment throughout the week. Free bar on the Thursday and Friday at work is a very useful addition and was welcomed at the end of a long week.
Organisational aspects of the internship were seamless, from the security pass to log in details for different system and being paid - everything worked perfectly!
The internship was set up around a marketing project that I needed to complete by the time I finished my period of time working at EC Harris. I didn't have any direct personal development training but there were some very useful pieces of information provided by many of the people that I was working around.
Company Parties/Events
I have been actively encouraged to apply for a graduate position with the company and have been able to make some great contacts during my time at EC Harris.
The Culture
The free bar was ideal for an afterwork social scene. However, I never had the opportunity to meet fellow students or interns during my time there which would have been useful in respect of sharing experiences of working with EC Harris etc..
Free Bar.
