About You
I thought that the insight was quite good for those who were really interested in the Audit and Tax sectors of EY. It also was quite good for learning more about EY as a firm. These 2 reasons meant I enjoyed it, however, as someone who is not too interested in the audit and tax sectors, sometimes it got a bit dry.
I felt relatively valued at my time there. This is due to the fact that when talking to workers there they did not seem to look down at me and were happy to engage in conversation. However, it would have been better if there were more workers to talk to in different sectors of EY there.
On the last day, while we were doing group presentations, each group got assigned a current EY employee to help the groups out which was quite good, but other than that there wasn't much support. However, they did give some helpful advice regarding applying to EY and offered the chance to be fast tracked in the future.
I wouldn't say I learned a lot of transferable skills whilst being there but I was given decent advice regarding applying to EY. However, it was good to take part in the group project and do a bit of public speaking as I hadn't had much experience of that recently. And it was good experience to take part in the group project as these sort of projects occur at assessment centres for firms across the UK.
The Company
I would say that the insight was pretty well structured overall. However, the second day was much more well structured than the first day as it was more jam packed with activities, but I guess that is to be expected as the first day nobody knew each other so we had to introduce each other, etc.
I would say that the atmosphere was pretty good in general. The majority of people wanted to work for EY or work in the finance sector so everyone was like minded in that aspect. This meant it was enjoyable to talk to people as you learned a lot from them. However, sometimes it got a bit stale as everyone was quite similar in that aspect.
They didn't invest a whole load but I learnt some valuable lessons. Due to it being a very short programme this was probably to be expected, but I felt like I picked up some good information from employees and my public speaking skills got better from the group project on the last day.
I would say that the insight helped me understand a lot about EY as there were many talks given by different employees of EY. Also at the dinner, it gave us a chance to speak to EY employees which was very helpful as they were able to say what they really thought about EY.
I was able to learn a decent amount about EY but not too much due to it being a short programme. I liked what I learnt about EY regarding the opportunities given to employees in terms of activities like sport. I also liked how the speakers talked about enjoying their jobs at EY.
I didn't know much about EY coming into the insight day but I feel like I got a positive impression about EY from it. However, I was not too interested in the audit and tax sectors coming into the day and this didn't change my mind regarding these sectors, as they seemed a bit stale.
Everything Else
I reimbursed expenses which I thought was very good. I wasn't paid for this experience although I wasn't expecting to given that it was a two day programme. The food and drink provided at breaks was good, as well as the dinner on the first day which EY paid for and included a three course meal at a very good restaurant.
Yes there were opportunities for networking and meeting employees but I feel that these were quite brief and didn't occur enough. The best time was at the dinner to talk to employees but other than that they did not happen much. The only other time really was at the group project when each group got assigned an employee.
Due to it being a 2 day programme it meant that there could only be a social event on the end of the first night. But I really enjoyed the dinner that EY paid for and the fact that there were employees there at the dinner who we could talk to.
Yes, I managed to find out about the activities that EY offer to their employees at the dinner and at one of the talks. At one of the talks, an employee talked about running a marathon for EY which I thought was quite interesting. And at the dinner, another employee talked about the other sports options such as squash that EY offer.
I would probably recommend this insight to a friend if they were interested in the Audit and Tax sectors as they talked a lot about these. However, I would not recommend it as much a friend just wanted to learn more about EY in general, or about any of their other sectors.
