The Role
Overall I enjoyed the placement, I worked with a great team although their were numerous challenging times.
I was treated like an associate recruitment consultant, my colleagues didn't make me feel like an intern or below any of them, they treated me exactly the same as every other employee starting in the business. Very friendly environment with a family feel.
My direct manager was very supportive, she made sure I was on track with my development in the business as well as with my university studies.
This is dependent on the desk you are given, I experienced a really fast paced desk were I felt I had too much to do, as well as a slow desk were I struggled to find things to do.
I was a 360 recruitment consultant so I was given full responsibility of my desk client and candidate side but I was given guidance and advice whenever I needed it
I intend to pursue a career in HR so the skills developed have given me a huge insight into recruitment which is an element of my studies.
The Company
The office atmosphere varies, everyone in the office is friendly and fun but because its a sales environment it does become pressurized at times creating a stressful environment
The placement wasn't as organized as I would have liked, quite a few last minute changes throughout that effected me such as desk/role swaps and management changes but some of these were due to uncontrollable factors.
Training is excellent, it is ongoing and I got to stay in London for three days fully expensed to complete my training program. Hay's also offer an internal recruitment progression scheme which I registered interest in but unfortunately my region missed the deadline, this was unfortunate as it would have benefited my development.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
If I decide to stay in recruitment it would be with Hay's but in big office with more opportunities such as London, but I'm not convinced with the sales element of the job so i'm looking to pursue a career in HR.
The Culture
When you are in a small office it is highly likely that you will be the only intern, this was my case but if your in a central office like London you will be with many! I did however see some interns at Hays events which was nice, I also have a social relationship with most colleagues outside of work which is also nice.
Luton - cheap area in terms of socializing and food, we normally go to st albans for work night outs which is a tad more pricey. I also lived at home so the only expense was trains, which was pricey also considering the short distance.
Never went out in luton unless it was drinks after work, but st albans was a nice night out
not to my knowledge
