The Role
Hugely varied and fast paced, you are up-skilled quickly to a good capability. Industry based training is industry leading and sets you up for a fantastic career in recruitment.
A very supportive environment build on shared success and on the job training. You are equal from day one, although you must perform too!
Training is industry leading, however mentor system is not as effective as It could be - consultants all have to be earning fees, this takes priority over training of others sometimes.
Working weeks are longer than the standard and there are occasions where you stay late to get the job done. This is also testament to my organisation skills which need to improve!
Full responsibility for a market of clients and candidates with full capability to represent Hays in front of clients within global businesses and recruit for jobs in a specific market segment. All fee's billed are attributed to yourself for which you are rewarded.
Invaluable experience in a very supportive environment, I have learned both soft and hard skills in general work practice as well as the recruitment industry.
The Company
Very positive, upbeat and based on success. Good news is shared regularly and everyone is congratulated in equal measure for their achievements.
The internship was no different to a permanent job. You are given regular appraisals with line mangers and directors to monitor progress and give tips on how to succeed. Training from the company is fantastic but mentoring/day to day training has room for improvement.
I was enrolled onto the intern programme, including a 3 day training session dedicated to up-skilling interns to perform as consultants. In terms of personal development, working with 2 different teams has given me a greater appreciation for working practice but also more specific industry knowledge. Team training days are regular to up-skill consultants in their specific markets.

I am now working throughout my final year of study with the view to returning as a permanent member of staff after graduation. The opportunity is there if you perform and are successful in your placement. Following this, there are no barriers to entry with promotions at Hays, you are promoted on merit, not when others leave the business.
The Culture
After work drinks on Fridays are regular, but aside from national and regional conferences the social aspect is limited.
Regular cost of living, affordable as a placement student in a shared living environment.
Acceptable but not amazing.
