    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My role within the organisation was varied and there was a lot of support from the team and also HR to progress throughout the placement as well as get involved with real projects that were making a difference in the business.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My managers were very supportive and let me get on with what I was doing, they also reviewed my progress with me regularly to check I was on track and if I needed any further support.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Everyone was very supportive in the areas that they worked in, if they were unable to help, I was always told who could help in the business.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Fairly busy, my work was mostly project based, so whenever a new project began my work load increased. I had other daily/weekly tasks to be getting on with when I wasn't working on projects which occupied the rest of the time.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was able to take charge of different projects, leading on the web development with the assistance of my team and assisting with the incentive campaigns. These were big projects that I had the opportunity of being involved in from start to end, so seeing results was very pleasing as it made me feel very accomplished.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • VWG provided a structured programme, allowing us a familiarisation before starting to ensure we had met our team and we didn't feel too nervous when starting on our first day. They also provided undergraduate specific training courses on top of the others that were available, these offered skills that could be used both in the work place and back at university. The graduate buddy we were assigned were able to give us advice on the graduate scheme and any other issues we may have had when starting. This was useful because many of them understand the position you're in and are able to offer useful advice. Finally we have had a development portfolio which we are able to take back to university with us, and in it we have had the opportunity to record everything about the scheme, our roles, objectives, projects and development. This could be used in the future for different job applications as it was a useful way of recording everything in one place.

  • Very friendly and open, everyone is very approachable and always willing to help.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was well organised, however as the year progressed, the scheme became more organised. This would be reflected in future years of the undergraduate scheme.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was able to choose from various courses, some of which were more personal in terms of managing your own time etc, The company also was invested in health and ran a day where they promoted this with stalls and competitions etc. This was a fun way to engage people across the business and help them to see the benefits and what they can do to improve their overall health.
