IT Executive Intern Review

I think that my placement was an amazing experience overall - the job responsibilities and challenges, the company culture, the people you get to work with; all fantastic. I was glad to be part of PRUK and especially being part of the IT team. Conviviality is what PRUK strive for and it definitely shows.

I really did feel as valued as any other employee with similar roles. Not just "the IT intern", but somebody who has their own set of responsibilities and IT skills that can prove useful for the business. I would be given projects and tasks that provide solutions to genuine business needs. I was able to enjoy most of the perks that other regular employees had, bar from a few (such as attending certain events).

My manager and various supervisors throughout the year have been very helpful, understanding and overall had a big impact on my time as an intern. My manager and supervisors were very approachable whatever the scenario - and was more than happy to help me out when I got stuck with tasks that were a little too difficult.

For the majority of the placement, I was sufficiently busy, with ongoing projects and learning opportunities to complete. Although there were some periods where there wasn't too much work to be done - but I would consider this normal for the periods that they were (for example, when many colleagues and wider business were off during the holiday period, so there weren't many things to be delivered).

I felt that I was given a decent amount of responsibility as part of my role, there were a few things I could not take responsibility for - as an intern on a work placement - and that's understandable. The things I did take responsibility for, however, were perfectly manageable and enjoyable to look after.

I think that a large amount of the soft and technical skills I learned on this work placement will be very beneficial to me in the future, both for the remainder of my degree and when pursuing a career. While my degree is not completely in-line with what my internship entailed, there was enough technical knowledge built up to give me a better understanding of things I had learned in previous years of my uni course.

To begin with, the office environment is very nice in terms of aesthetics and overall feel, as well as the surrounding area. I feel this had a positive impact on the people around me in the office, as most people were cheerful and polite. More specifically, the IT team always ensured a lively and fun atmosphere to be part of.

I would say that the organization of the recruitment process could've been much better handled by the third-party recruitment agency of PRUK, as they had me travel a very long distance with only a couple of days notice - just 3 days before some of my second year university exams! Other than that, everything else was fine, and the hand-over period provided by the previous intern was well structured and allowed me to ease into the role sufficiently.

PRUK have a large dedication to employee training and development, as well as insights into the teams we work in. I took part in some of these development and training workshops, and found them to be very interesting and somewhat useful for getting used to working in a corporate environment.

Assuming that the question is saying "How much would I like to come back to the organization": I feel that coming back to work for PRUK with a role similar to what my internship entailed seems very appealing. Assuming that the question is saying "How likely do I feel that I'm going to be employed by the organization in the future": I feel that I get along with my team and surrounding busy very well, however being employed in the future is completely conditional on whether particular job roles are available when I am out of uni.

I feel that all of the interns were very convivial and sociable. There were plenty of opportunities to hang out with them and discuss the placement on many occasions. Whilst I may not have shared too many similar interests with them, it didn't really matter as the fact that we were interns helped us get along.

This particular area of London (as well as business/industrial areas of London in general) is expensive for housing, travelling and eating. However, company perks helped alleviate some of these costs, such as discounted drinks at some of the local bars. I was lucky enough to be able to live with my girlfriend in an area not too far, however I feel most people with student loan and not a lot of financial backing will struggle finding somewhere cheap that is decent to stay in whilst on a placement in this area.

There are a few nearby places to go to for after work drinks and food, of which have discounts for people who work in the area. A tube journey from the local station would get you into more lively areas of London, so there are plenty of opportunities and places to go to for good nights out.

Thanks to the business park (ran by the Chiswick Business Park - Enjoy Work team) the office is situated in, there were plenty of events to take part in straight out of the office. As well as this, PRUK themselves have had many out-of-work events I was invited to, such as drink tasting sessions.
