The Role
My placement took a while to get started but once it did I really started to enjoy it as there was a variety of work which I got involved in
At the beginning I did feel like a placement student but after I settled in and got into the work I now feel 100% valued by my colleagues,
I was very fortunate to have a manager who wanted me to get the most out of this year, I was constantly given support, interesting tasks and encouraged to go on courses to help me this year
This really varied, there were some days I had little to do and others I was so busy I didn't have time for a lunch break. There was a medium but at the beginning of each week it was hard to tell if I would be really busy or not
I have been given complete responsibility this year, but I do think this is also down to you as an individual - being willing to take on work and new tasks and prove yourself to others is key
I feel like the only way you can learn about business is by working in one and I have definitely learnt valuable skills that will help me secure a graduate job and help me in interviews. I would say a placement year helps you more in this way than in University but there still are some elements that link to your degree
The Company
The atmosphere was ok, sometimes it wasn't very sociable but there was definitely a friendly vibe
It is difficult to say, I think I had a really good manager who helped me settle in and get me involved in loads of different tasks, whereas the placement scheme itself could have prepared us more as on day 1 we didn't really know what we were going into. However I know this is difficult as we were all based in different roles and on different accounts
Significantly, I was encouraged to go on courses, to shadow other teams, sit in meetings, get involved in a variety of tasks

Really appealing. I have been offered to extend my contract over the summer and fast tracked to the graduate assessment centre, and there are a number of roles on my account which you can progress to
The Culture
On my account/location - no At wider Fujitsu - yes There were hardly any placement students or graduates where I was based but I frequently worked from other offices where I could socialise with others my age and then we would organise IP nights out ourselves
Fairly cheap but there is not much to do here, café downstairs is very expensive (not FJ owned/subsidised like other locations)
Nothing!!!!
Yes - lots of placement things we organised, and charity events e.g. Fujitsu's charity partner and Macmillan, and team outings
