The Role
Working for IBM is very enjoyable. The people you work with are all friendly and as a result you feel at home and part of the business very quickly
You are not treated like an intern, rather as another member of the team. From day one you are given real responsibility, not just filing and making tea
My manager supported me a great deal throughout my year. We were given clear targets for the year and were told exactly what we needed to do to achieve them
This varied a lot. Right at the start we were busy with inductions and training but once that had finished the work load died down for a a few weeks. This soon picked back up and we became more competent. I personally took on a number of extra projects so my workload was significantly higher than the team average
We were responsible for some very important clients from pretty much day one.
The Company
Everyone was very friendly.
The company provided access to whatever training and development I wanted to do and supported me through the process
Subsidised Canteen
Working from home
Having a successful placement with IBM will give you a massive advantage with respect to applying for graduate and permanent positions. The roles are interesting and there is a two day event in March explaining your options and the available roles
The Culture
I lived with three other lads also on placement at IBM so it was quite social. Nights out clubbing were quite regular as was a night just in the pub.
This is London we are talking about..... Rent - £500 Bills - £50 a month Travel to work - £75 a month Beer - lucky to find anywhere less than £4 a pint
The night life was limited where we lived but we were only about 40 mins from central London.
You could pretty much get involved in anything you wanted. There were always opportunities to do something different.
