The Role
Really enjoyed it. Lots of opportunities, great team, and really nice environment
Regular feedback, and my manager always said thank you if I did work for her
Weekly calls with my task manager meant I had good suppor
I was busy every now and again, but most of the time I wasn't
A fair bit, my manager retired and I was asked to take on some of her old tasks when she left
I have every hope I'll be much better equipped for final year. I now know what it's like to hold down and job, and how the different things I have learnt at uni fit into real life
The Company
It's a very laid back atmosphere, which means everyone can get their work done with no stress. The hursley offices are in the countryside and set within beautiful grounds, so it's a really lovely environment to work in. I had a great team and that made the environment fun and happy.
Extremely well organised. There is a set program for all interns, and it seems to work really well. The cycle of reviews and assessment make sure the internship progresses well
I was able to attend lots of education and training events (though perhaps this was because my role involved organizing the logistics behind them) Managers also ran workshops open to all interns, on areas we all want to improve on e.g. presenting skills. These were really well run, and very beneficial to attend

IBM clearly have a very well run and established graduate scheme, which allows you to move around the business areas and develop both personally and professionally. Generally, the grad scheme is appealing.
The Culture
There are not that many interns in Hursley, but I guess it's what you make of it We used to go to the beach alot, and go shopping and for dinner after work, but because of the location, its not as though there is a huge group of interns up for going for drinks everynight
Really expensive. I was much worse off this year than as a student, with £700 rent and and £1100 salary, I still had to have help from my parents
Um - depends where you go. Winchester is awful, southampton is okay but a bit rough It's not the best and I wouldnt really recommend it to be honest However, Soton is nice to go for cocktails in the sun, as there is quite a nice square with bars on
Again its probably what you make of it. I came intending to join the southampton uni lacrosse club, and find somewhere to horse ride, but didn't get round to it. Im sure there are things to do if you look for them, but it's a quiet area....
