The Role
As a year overall I had a great time on placement, learning a huge amount about the company and how to fit into a large organization. My opinion of my year was split into two parts as my team changed in the new year due to a restructuring. In my first team I was left to my own devices with not much core work, which wasn't a great opening to my first placement. However in my 2nd team I had a great experience getting a great deal of client exposure and really adding value to my team. For the purpose of this review I'll focus on the 2nd 6 months as that is a better representation of the company.
The people are by far the best part of IBM, in pretty much every case people will help you if you approach them with a problem, and when you complete work for people you receive useful feedback. Only suggestion would be for more guidance in the opening few months, as in such a large corporation it's easy to get lost.
The work I was doing was not directly relevant to my degree, however the skills I have developed over the year will be incredibly useful in all aspects of life. Particularly confidence when out of my comfort zone and integrating into new teams.
The Company
This would vary depending on how many members of my team were in the office. There is a large culture in IBM to work from home which although incredibly useful at times, bit of a double edged sword when it happens really often.
I didn't receive as much organised guidance as I would have expected from a company with such a large intern/grad set up.

Working from home
I will definitely be applying back to the graduate scheme as there are some brilliant roles available. Need to be careful in finding the right one however.
The Culture
In the intern community yes, there were around 100 interns in the Southbank office alone so this was really useful.
Cost of living was high as I was in London, however this didn't really stop us socialising.
