The Role
I enjoyed it. I worked with a great group of people and felt the year really helped me mature. The work I did was mostly what I enjoyed doing, and there were also other interesting tasks you get on a GMS site
I was treated as one of them and took part in projects valued by the department. I didn't just make cups of tea for everyone!
If I needed help I could almost always ask someone for advice, which was given. If I couldn't do something they wouldn't have wanted me to do it and cause bigger issues!
Some days I was very busy (which I enjoy) and some days less so. It is difficult in Science because some reactions/ experiments involve a lot of waiting around
My responsibilities increased as I grew more comfortable in the role. I felt important in my team, and I feel I was actually useful
I think it will really help. I learnt things I would not have otherwise learnt and worked with experts in different fields who taught me techniques and methods.
The Company
It was a nice atmosphere, everyone was relaxed and happy for a chat whilst doing work
It was well structured, GSK (or SRG, our recruiters) hire hundreds of students so they have to be organised
A lot, especially in manufacturing practice and operating procedures. I had a lot of training which will be useful across many sectors.

There are lots of good graduate schemes in GSK, and also many direct entry opportunities. These are advertised to placement students who get a slight head start in applications.
The Culture
We had plenty of nights out and meals. My department was very social and people of all ages would come out for drinks or a meal.
I lived in Brighton, which is actually really expensive. Worthing is a bit cheaper but still pricey. You will do well in Brighton to get rent under £400pppm.
Brighton is good for nightlife, always something going on. Worthing is ok, plenty of pubs and a couple of clubs.
I am currently part of the charity team "orange united". We are setting up a week of charity events in summer
