The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement at IBM, it was not only useful for me in terms of personal development, but allowed me to add tangible value to IBM.
From the day I started, I was welcomed by my department over a social event and was invited to monthly reviews and weekly calls. Throughout the year I have felt welcomed by all parties and felt it was a comfortable environment to work.
I was given a lot of support and guidance at the start of my placement, despite asking some silly questions at first! However, as time progressed I felt more comfortable and was able to work more independently.
I was consistently busy throughout the year, there may have been times in the day where I had an hour or two free, but utilised this by online training hosted by IBM internally.
I was continuously given responsibility throughout the year, from solely traveling to across the country to organise courses to leading projects in my department with third parties.
I have learned invaluable skills during my placement that I will undoubtedly take forward with me to my final year of study and my working life thereafter. These include both my personality and my attributes.
The Company
As expected from a corporate environment, there were times where it is fun, but mostly just as any other job.
The placement was very well organised, offering 3, 6 and 12 month reviews to ensure I am on track with my objectives and aims for the year.
Training and development is in the heart of the company, offering you an initiative of THINK40 to spend 40 working hours through the year on online training

Working from home
The future employment prospects are very good, having completed a placement I have had a chance to meet graduates and see how they are loving what they do. The flexibility of IBM to work where you have most interest is definitely second to none.
The Culture
There was a large cohort of interns this year and we were very social from drinks after work to Boat Parties and football matches.
Very expensive!
Awesome!
Yes, there is always Giveback opportunities and other activities you can get involved in.
