The Role
A lot of responsibility was offered to me over the course of my placement that allowed me to develop greatly. However, I felt the variety of my role was often limited making it sometimes stale
I felt like a crucial part of my team with my work being important to the company's progress.
Support and guidance was very good with my colleagues offering any help I needed
Early on I found the placement very frustrating with my workload being very limited. However, as the placement went on I was offered a lot more responsibility. Although this was the case my work load could still often fluctuate with some days being a very chilled and slow going, and others being extremely busy and hectic. This was partly attributed to the seasonality of the industry.
I was given a lot of responsibility over the course of the year with many of my daily reports being crucial to the company. Much of my analysis was also viewed as high up as the European Director.
I was able to greatly advance my Excel skills throughout the course of the year as well as developing general skills such as analytical ability and communication. Although I was able to develop substantially most of this was from on the job experience with little formal training offered to enhance employee development.
The Company
The atmosphere was extremely friendly. Renault felt like a team. Wherever you worked you were able to meet a large portion of the employees regardless of their department, age, or level. I feel the very flat structure greatly contributed to this atmosphere. You were able to talk to any member of staff at any level like a friend
Although the placement was enjoyable I felt like its organization was very limited. The welcome day and the induction just felt like it was pieced together. I also feel due to the lack of organization the placement was only so enjoyable due to limited extra-curricular activities or events offered to the placement. This made the year feel more like a proper job rather than a placement. This is not necessarily a bad thing with it showing you what a real job is like, however I feel there is no harm in making the year more memorable and enjoyable through exciting opportunities like I have heard are offered on other placement schemes.
My managers offered me a lot of support to enhance my development. The level of responsibility I was given in my role allowed me to develop greatly from gaining experience on the job. However, there were next to no formal training opportunities offered that would have assisted my role.

Future employment prospects are very appealing. The graduate scheme is very good with a substantial starting salary and good benefits package. The scheme also allows you to spend a bit of time in several departments allowing you to get a better understanding of how the company works and what roles you may enjoy most. Once you are a full time employee there are also a lot of opportunities for both vertical and horizontal role changes.
The Culture
The social scene for very poor in my group of interns. This contributed by the company car scheme meaning employees did not have to live near by making it hard to coordinate social events that worked for everyone. Also I feel a lot of this years intern already had a local social scene outside of the company. This was probably just an issue with my year of interns, I heard from the previous 2 years of interns and both their social scenes sounded very good. I feel our social scene could have been bettered if it was facilitated by company organized events.
There was limited local housing near the workplace this led to most interns commuting from a variety of places. This led to cost of living varying on location.
In the area we worked there was no nightlife, this is what made it hard to coordinate social events. However, with London only on your doorstep you can make the most of the vast nightlife there.
Renault has a football and cricket team and also holds Pilates and Running club. There was also the opportunity to get involved in partnered events such as charity work, the London Marathon, Survival of the Fittest etc.
