    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was brilliant. I was given real responsibility and felt like a valued member of the team. I did real work and there was a great support network of interns. The company supports the interns networking and also networking with the leadership team in the UK. The company really invests into the placement experience with good training.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues are great, they treat me like a real employee, I feel like I have been there for years. I am the one with the least experience but I feel that my opinion is listened to and taken seriously, there has been a change in the way a process is done because of a contribution I made to a meeting. So I feel like I am a valued member of the team.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had 2 managers/ supervisors who shared the role of supporting me. They were brilliant, very supportive and sometimes able to recognise I need help before I even I have realised. They treated me like a valued member of the team and were there whenever I needed help regardless of their enormous workload.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • To start with I was not very busy because I was training and it took me ages to do the smallest of tasks. I did feel bored some of the times but now looking back I understand why I had the much time on my hands, it was so that I get the basics right. Now I am busy, and I like being busy, I like juggling stuff so it is the perfect workload for me.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility, I work independently and so it is up to me to speak up when things go wrong. I do real work and in clinical trials this means doing work that will contribute to data that will be used in getting a drug to market or doing work that ends up being reviewed in an audit. So I feel I have a lot of responsibility.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • 5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office atmosphere is great. There is always someone to talk to, if you need help, or just to get a coffee and yet it always quite enough for you to get work done. The work I do requires attention to detail and so I appreciate the quietness. everyone is very helpful and so even if you face challenges there is always someone willing to go through the task with you.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The HR department has done a great job in trying to ensure that the internship runs smoothly. They have a handbook that helps you track your progress and it is up to you and your manager how much you use the book. The handbook has great pointers and is a good structure for the programme as a whole.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested so much. The first 2 and a half months were all training basically. The company invests in personal development because as part of the internship we got to go on field visits to go and see/experience other aspects of the business that are different to what we normally do. So for example I work in clinical trial but I got to see a drug manufacturing and animal health.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would love to work for the company again. There are a lot of opportunities to come back into the organisation and interns from past years have come back to the organisation. They encourage students to come back because they invest so much in them in terms of training and personal development.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, there was always something going on, trips to London, going down to the pub, nights out and weekend trips away. The placement students got on really well and we did stuff together even if it is just having lunch together in the canteen or going to the gym together. The great thing is you can socialise as much or as little as you want.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The accommodation for almost everyone was just under or over £500. The actual area is very small and not much happens there are a few pubs that are affordable but you can travel to London in just under an hour or to the Hertford which is about a 10/15min drive.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • 4/5
