The Role
I made the most of every opportunity due to this I ensured that I enjoyed my 12 month placement.
My team were highly supportive and very kind.
I was given plenty of support by my manager.
There were days when I was crazy busy, but there were also days were I didn't have much to do. You have to take the initiative to be proactive in order to get the most out of your placement.
I was treated as an equal. I was given real responsibility from day 1. I have chaired meetings with important clients and have taken on my own projects.
The world-of-work is something which can't be taught, it must be experienced. I have grown as a confident, competent and mature individual, ready to embrace the "real world" after graduation.
The Company
Corporate yet casual. I was based in Crewe (near Manchester), everyone is professional and friendly.
It could have been set up with a little bit more organisation, as at some points there wasn't much to do.
Everyone has to do mandatory training when you start. On top of this, if there is a course relevant to your internship, if you have a valid business case behind it, your manager may approve this.
Working from home
The IT Industry is an ever evolving industry. There is much to look forward to and opportunities arising every other day.
The Culture
As Crewe is a very quiet town, everyone usually went home on the weekends. Sometime during the week the grads and interns would come together and go to the nearby pub.
Crewe is quite inexpensive in my opinion. Originally coming from Birmingham, I found Crewe to be a lot cheaper in rent and day-t-day living. However, because I did travel on weekends, as there isn't much to do in Crewe, this did bump up my expenditure.
The nightlife is non-existent in Crewe. There is a nearby village where the nightlife is a little bit better. However, Manchester isn't too far from Crewe (about 40 mins on the train).
Not many. For Halloween, Christmas, Red Nose day and any other "holidays" there was the occasional pub quiz or drinks after work, apart from that nothing else.
