The Role
Had a really great time on my placement, learnt a lot, met a lot of great people, and felt like I made a difference. I worked for 12 months, and got to work with various departments getting to know a lot about the company, working life in general, and made some good friends and contacts for later life!
I felt quite valued by my colleagues in some of the situations and projects, but also at some points didn't feel as valued when I didn't have the knowledge on the system/process
I was given a lot of support, with weekly 1 to 1's with my manager, visits from my university and IPUnite making sure socially we were supported. There were also very thorough and fully encompassing training for every scenario I could face in my day to day life at work which was encouraging, and every process was laid out in an easy to find document so I never felt unsupported doing a job.
Very On/Off, super busy then the next week not much then back to super busy. The nature of the job being in manufacturing meant that this couldn't fully be avoided as if nothing was being made that I was involved with then there was very little work for me to do. It would have been good to get involved in other products maybe to then give me a broader view and keep me busier but understandably that would have meant a lot more resource time and effort spent on me.
Given a fair amount of responsibility, was project manager on a project, and was an integral member of the team on others
I developed great skill, learnt to program which I will definitely take forward. I also learnt a lot more on organisation, time management, and focusing on a job which I will hopefully take to my final year at University to improve my grade. I also am definitely a lot more qualified to work in the industry, so can take these skills for future job applications.
The Company
Good group of people, very social, and a lively atmosphere
Internship was well organised, everyone knew that I was coming and had planned out some work for me. Was understandably hard to fully plan all the work for the year due to the nature of the work environment, so had some periods where I was unsure of what I was meant to be doing.
There were many development, and training workshops, classes etc. These were all free and encouraged for me to attend, as well as tours etc of the various other sites in operation around the country. There was training on everything at the company, from process specific things, to broader topics such as behavioral and time management, how to properly present, and wider reaching things for the industry.

Have applied for the graduate scheme and have passed the first few stages so I guess we will wait and see! The first stage was a question related to why I would fit in, which I got support from the company with, then I had to submit a CV followed by a values test, a logical reasoning test and then a maths test, all of which I passed .
The Culture
There was a great social scene, and all the IP's got on very well and found some good locations for social gatherings. I made some good friends and hope to stay in touch with them. We regularly got together to do things outside of work, be it BBQ's going to the pub, playing football or visiting London/Cambridge, and it definitely made the year much more enjoyable as a result
Close to London so a lot more expensive than Leeds where I go to Uni but could be more expensive based on stories from friends. I was paying 450 pounds a month as opposed to 250 pounds in leeds, but then I know people paying 1000 pounds a month in London, so for what it was it wasn't bad. Food was much the same, but the price of a pint was a little too expensive for me!
Nightlife was OK, but it was better than I expected and London was only a short train ride away. Ware had no clubs, but a lot of nice and lively bars, favorite was the Saracens Head. Hertford was just down the road and had a couple of Clubs, but they mainly all closed around 2/3am. Fortunately London was a direct train away and so could go there if we wanted a big night out!
Yes, there were lots of social clubs, sporting clubs. I played 6 a side football twice a week which was very enjoyable.
