The Role
It has been a useful placement year in order to gain an insight into the pharmaceutical industry. More exposure to the areas relevant to my degree would would have made my role more enjoyable.
Having an opportunity to be in charge of a project and tasks associated with it would have increased my sense of responsibility to deliver and feel more valued to the company.
The demand for my manager to move roles to another department left me without a supervisor for the first half of the year. No real designated project for the rest of the year to complete.
Some days very busy and some days with not much work to do.
Small amount of responsibility due to lack of effective management.
Work undertaken in a department not relevant to my degree.
The Company
Very nice and friendly colleagues.
No structure was in place to introduce the Industrial Placement students at my site to each other, no plan for starting the placement year or projects to keep me busy for the rest of the year.
Very little investment on personal development by GSK. However SRG did a great job in partnership with IP Unite to provide useful training tolls for students.
The little relevance of the job with my degree subject has made future employment with GSK less attractive.
The Culture
Very good social scene and friendly colleagues.
The cost of living and socialising was very cheap and affordable compared to other sites in the south and near London.
Very good nightlife and lots of options available for socialising.
Activities were mainly associated with food and drinks.
