The Role
The work at GSK was exactly what I wanted to do, and exactly what they told me it was probably going to be.
My colleagues were very friendly and encouraging me in my work.
Every time I needed support and guidance my supervisor was here, sometimes I just had to wait for several hours when he was on a meeting but otherwise I received all the help I needed.
It really depended on the days but usually I was really busy. It was always possible to ask for more work but the balance was usually good.
I was pretty autonomous and synthesized molecules for 3 different managers so I had quite a lot of responsibilities on what I was doing. They really relied on me to reach their targets ASAP so I always tried to do my best.
I exactly developed the skills I will need in the future as I want to work in the same area than during my placement year. It was a very very useful experience.
The Company
Friendly atmosphere, a bit like if it was your work family. Very nice working conditions.
The placement was perfectly organized from the beginning to the end. GSK did an absolutely amazing job. The only things that I can criticize is SRG's job to help us that was very bad, almost inexistent, particularly at the beginning of the year when we had to create a bank account, get a NI number and stuff like this. But this is not related to the WORK placement set up.
We could basically attend to all the meetings / lectures we wanted, whatever the area was so that was very good.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Financial Bonus
I haven't really any idea because I want to do a PhD outside GSK and then come back so they were obviously not going to offer me a job during this year.
The Culture
Going out was colleagues quite often to the pub, and every week-end with the other IPs.
I was doing house sharing with 4 people so it was OK but you can't live alone here.
7/10 because in Stevenage it was quite bad but we are very close to London so it's really good to go out. However you have then to take the first trains in the morning to go back home, which you can't do every week-end.
Not a lot of things to do in Stevenage...
