    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • On the whole I have enjoyed my placement. The only negative I feel is the repetition in some of the jobs I do, but I feel as if this comes with the title of being an intern.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • On the whole I felt valued by those in the wider team and I feel as if I added value to the role throughout my placement.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I feel I was given a large amount of support. Those in my team were willing to coach me if there were things that I didn't understand and they were always willing to take time out of their day to help me improve.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Interestingly my role fluctuated a lot depending on external factors, sometimes I would be extremely busy and at other periods I would be less so. However, on the whole this is a very busy role and there is always something to do.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • On occasions I was given great amounts of support- however this seemed to vary throughout.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I am now much more capable on a laptop for things like data analysis, report pulling, excel and my time management has definitely improved during this role.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There was a good and supportive atmosphere in my office and everyone was talkative and willing to help on another out.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I feel it was well organised, however I think perhaps the placement should have focused on development a little more and should have perhaps provided additional training for this.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I feel that apart from a careers workshop- this was an area that definitely could have been touched on more heavily.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I feel that the future prospects in this company are very appealing- I am definitely going to apply back as the grad scheme has good prospects.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Among the IBM interns there is a good community due to the sheer amount of interns. I believe that this community is a very strong part of the role and is something that my friends from other companies have definitely missed out on while being on their internships.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living in London is naturally very difficult- especially on an intern salary! It would be very hard to afford the cost of living without a student loan.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • All in all the nightlife is good- lots of nice bars with deals on for IBM employees, due to the company being such a large business in the area.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I feel like there was a lack of opportunity to get involved in activities, while I was at IBM and this was not something that was publicized to me.
