The Role
It was a very interesting and varied job as I had the opportunity to work with people from a variety of different projects.
My colleagues in ShadowWorks were all tremendously welcoming and from the first day I was made to feel like I was making useful contributions to the department.
Support and guidance was always very helpful but never too much or even patronizing
I could have dealt with a slightly higher workload but that did not affect the experience as a whole too much.
All the tasks I was given were pretty much entirely my responsibility starting from the initial meeting with the customer to the final delivery of the product.
Particularly the hands on management experience in the form of the '5 S' implementation is something that has enabled me to see more clearly the benefits and flaws of many models we study on a purely theoretical basis.
The Company
There was always a very casual and friendly atmosphere.
The organization of the placement was very good. Starting with a two day induction into the organization as a whole and the business I was working in was very helpful.
This year there was not much personal training required but when I worked there last year I recieved fairly extensive training on the use of CAD and CFD packages, which has been very useful since.
Flexi Time
Subsidised/Company Gym
For me particularly the graduate leadership scheme is a very appealing option.
The Culture
We all lived together in the University of Bristol halls so it was always lots of fun after work.
Bristol was neither particularly cheap nor particularly expensive.
Very good nightlife in bristol!
The Rolls-Royce Apprentice Association organized loads of activities from rock climbing to paintballing and Go-Karting
