    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was an overall enjoyable experience with ups and downs. I have enjoyed the freedom that I was giving and the traveling possibilities and meeting people and clients. However, I felt like I was getting a bit lost in the processes, all the systems and spreadsheets that a big company operates on. Overall, the IBM experience is what you make of it! If you want to make a difference, you will have the chance to!

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt highly appreciated by my immediate superiors and close working colleagues. However, going up to more senior people, it was hard to reach them and understand if I feel valued at that level.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Having 3 Task Managers and 1 Early Professional Manager ( helps you develop and understand what you want to do) has definitely provided me with support and guidance.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Fairly busy, you are as busy as you would like to be!

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As far as given responsibility, I could have used with more push actions from my managers. I felt like I was asking for work a bit too many times and nosing where I wasn't suppose to but you have the freedom to work on your own projects and ideas.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I will probably struggle to implement knowledge learn over my placement. Being quite a niche market that I was working in, software for HR, this would only help me with HR modules and probably the difference between theory and practice is more prone that I was expecting. Overall, it gives me the chance to link those together with examples.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • On the majority of times, I felt that the department was not united and everybody was doing their own job without collaborating to their peers. Also having flexy-work as a possibility a lot of people work from home being almost impossible to meet everybody who I was working with.In my team, I have been quite fortunate to work closely to my superiors and have a positive, funny atmosphere.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well organized. I always had continues communication on what I have to do etc.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Quite a high investment ! Learn 2 programming languages and had the chance to travel quite a lot to customer and business partners meetings. I wish I could have done the sales school though !

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    International Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • For the moment, I am not considering a position back! I would like to experience the start-up world and working in smaller companies. Maybe mine! The door is always open though and I know I would enjoy a few positions going forward.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a bit too much socializing I would say from fellow placement students. Some-times it felt like I was back in college with groups always going around in the office and beyond!

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Downside of London... Working in central London is self-explanatory and sometimes I struggled with handling my expenses and having a balance social life. Could definitely do with a bigger salary in the London offices!

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Very animated and plenty of options!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, the giveback system gives you the chance to go back to university, school or do any voluntary opportunities. I did feel though that with some of these opportunities the organisers were taking our help for granted

    4/5
