The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my work placement.
I have felt very valued by my supervisor, who I feel has faith and me and has given me my own responsibilities. Because of this, I have felt trusted and my confidence in my own capabilities have grown.
I am given plenty of support from my supervisor. We interact every day and work closely together, and she is always my first point of call for anything. She gave me a lot of guidance and training in the first couple of months of my placement, but since she has let me manage my own work unaided, which I appreciate.
I am very busy on a daily basis - if I'm not in the lab running an experiment, I am in meetings or writing up my experiments in the office.
I feel like I have been given a lot of responsibilities during my placement - my supervisor delegates tasks to myself and I feel like she trusts me entirely to carry out the tasks I am given to a high standard.
My lab skills have developed tremendously - and as well as practical and scientific knowledge I have gained priceless knowledge about working the pharmaceutical industry. It will help me greatly in the years to come.
The Company
The atmosphere is good - everyone is busy and hard working which encourages you and puts you in the same mindset. It is often quiet, but often noisy as well when different members of the groups are interacting and having discussions amongst themselves.
The work placement is very organised, it is obvious that there is a scheme in place as it is very well ran.
Not sure what this question entails - but my supervisor invested a lot of her time training me.
Financial Bonus
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
The company has a future leaders programme graduate scheme which is a good opportunity for graduates. There are also direct entry jobs within the organisation.
The Culture
There are over a hundred placement students based here at GSK in Stevenage, therefore there is a good social scene amongst students and there will be plenty of students about!
the cost of living was very reasonable. Stevenage is only a 20 minute train ride from the centre of London, and rental prices for housing varied between £350-£400 pcm.
The nightlife was not amazing - Stevenage does not boats a lot of clubs and bars.
There are sport clubs around in Stevenage and there is a leisure park here which has various activities
