    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Eaton. Whilst on placement I feel as though I really got the chance to enhance my skills and develop as a person. I was given many tasks which helped me believe that I was adding value to the business. Further to this, I was given many cross functional tasks to perform and I often enjoyed being outside of my comfort zone and dealing with people I wouldn't have dealt with previously.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt I was valued massively by my colleagues. As the placement year went on, I often found my colleagues asking me for my opinions on various things. With working in a office with 18 different people, initially I didn't think I'd be valued with being an intern. But, I was very wrong about this and my perception quickly changed.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I feel as though I got numerous support from my managers/supervisor. If I was ever struggling with a piece of work, there was always a friendly face to turn to if need. Further to this, my mananger often had one to one chats with me to see how I was getting on, whilst also giving me feedback on my placement and also projects to take on.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This changed on a day to day basis. As I was working in a customer service office, the workload can often change. However, my workload kept me occupied and also entertained in a sense. Some days, I felt the work I was producing could have been more challenging as sometimes it was very repetitive.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was tasked with working on the company's biggest ever order and also playing a part in one of the company's 5 key metrics. To me this made me feel really valued and also quite proud that I had a chance to work on huge projects and metrics. Working on key projects within the plant, helped me improve many skills and also give me the required confidence that I can take into the future.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • On the placement you participate in many different training events. These training events are very useful and I believed they really catered for me as a student and also as an intern. One of the trainings I took part in was Presentation Skills Training, this training was regarding how you present. For me, this highlighted some of the tendencies I show when presenting and also the key skills you need to show when presenting. As a result of this training, I feel as though my presentation skills increased and therefore I feel very confident in presenting to colleagues, managers and directors. Previously, I was quite nervous in presenting.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I absolutely loved working in my office. The atmosphere in my office was brilliant, it had a wide range of personalities and also people with various ages and personalities. As a result, I found myself mixing and becoming with friends with people that I wouldn't interact with outside the working environment. Everyone in my office was friendly towards me and quite often the office harmony was perfect for me.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Occasionally I did find the organisation on the placement quite limited in terms of communication.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I thought that Eaton vastly invested in me as an intern. With the various training events you go on you get training that you wouldn't necessarily get compared to other placements. For me, the training I've undertook has played a massive part of my development and has improved my skills massively.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Car

    Above 25 days holiday

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There is a graduate scheme that Eaton provide. However, you still have to go through the same application process as everyone else so therefore I'm not sure whether being a previous intern has any impact or not. Furthermore, the roles are located in various parts globally which for me isn't a realistic prospect but I'm sure others would disagree with me.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • As I was based with three other interns on site who all had a similar outlook on the working life it was very and a breath of fresh air to talk to people who knew what I was going through.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living in the area is very cheap. I lived in Mansfield. Luckily, I shared a house with one of the other interns which was very cost effective for myself. As a result, I managed to save up quite a bit of money throughout the year compared to the other interns who live by themselves. In terms of socialising, me and the other interns played football outside of work which was a good way to interact outside the work environment and it was also nice to play sport and keep a positive active mind.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in the area is non existent and isn't something I'd waste my money on. However, Nottingham is only a 25 minute train journey which me and the other interns ventured out to on a number of occasions for a few nights out. Personally, I went home at weekends quite frequently due to not being much to do in the area but the other interns stayed around the area on weekends so therefore I believe how you perceive the area is down the personal preference.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There wasn't any activities provided by the company to participate in outside of work which was disappointing. Me and the other interns did create a football team which was fun.
