About You
The JLL First Insight Day was very well planned out and we were given a range of things to do which all allowed us to gain a really good insight into how the industry works and what it is like to work for your firm. I really enjoyed the group work at the end of the day where we were able to engage with students from other universities and also graduate surveyors who helped us with our project and explained the whole APC process to us very well.
Right from entering the building I felt very welcome in the office and I did not once feel shy or silly for asking questions about the industry to which I did not yet know the answer. We were especially made to feel valued when we had the networking breakfast and were able to speak to professionals who were very enlightening and made us feel at ease about our university career and our future profession in the industry.
Throughout the day there was always a graduate surveyor or another member of staff who was there to assist you with anything and guide us through the day, especially while we were shadowing one of the surveyors and carrying out the group projects. Throughout the work shadowing we were guided on what they were doing and felt very involved.
The insight day has made me feel a lot more confident about the application process for the summer internships in our second year of university and has made me even more determined to work to my full potential. I also developed my teamwork and communication skills when we had to plan and present our project work.
The Company
Throughout the day we were given the opportunity to talk to many different people and carried out a range of tasks such as the project work, networking breakfast and the work shadowing. It would be great if future first year students could do the work shadowing for a longer period of time rather than for a few hours as I found the experience very valuable and learnt a lot from it!
There was a great atmosphere all day with all the students engaged and willing to learn more about the industry. All the surveyors and assisting staff were very engaging and made us feel comfortable throughout the day. At no point did I feel like I wasn't able to ask a question, whether it be about life as a surveyor or how the APC process works.
During the Networking breakfast there were many opportunities to talk to professionals from various departments one on one and ask many questions, gaining a very good insight into the skills which are required to work within the industry and what is expected of you throughout your university course and also after graduation.
Before attending the insight day I was not very sure about what was to be expected from us after we graduate and how the APC process works, however, I now have a much better understanding of this and was able to hear what it is like to work full-time with the firm, not only about the type of work we would be doing but also the social aspects of the job.
We learnt a lot about what goes on within JLL and how the company works, from the type of work carried out to the social activities which are run all year round, involving everyone in the company. I also enjoyed hearing from the graduate surveyors what they got from being part of the firm.
Everything throughout the day was very helpful and a good range of activities were made available to us, all allowing us to gain an insight into different parts of the business. The work shadowing and Networking breakfast were the most valuable in my opinion and I gained a lot from them.

There were many points throughout the day where we had the opportunity to network.
Very engaging and interesting. There was a wide range of people to talk to from different departments.
The graduate surveyors explained all the different activities and social events which take place within the company throughout the day
I gained a lot from the day and would love for others to have the same opportunity!
