The Role
I was lucky as I was put with one of the best Business Development Managers so I got to deal with some exciting clients and big projects. Due to this I was able to go to meetings to discuss briefs and what they were looking for to promote their company.
Everyone was very welcome as the majority of staff were under the age of 30!
At the beginning of the placement you are trained for a solid two weeks about the company and the processes involved. After that you have to pick pretty much everything up on the job which can be difficult, but my BDM give me a lot of support as he has more experience of the industry and what was required.
I was always busy either ringing up suppliers to make sure that deadlines could be met for clients, dealing with my own smaller clients and primarily helping my BDM with anying he needed assistance with.
You are pretty much doing the same job as your BDM but you are not dealing with such "high profile" clients.
The placement allowed me to put what I learnt at university into practice.
The Company
It is a more relaxed atmosphere than I had been used to compared to previous jobs. This was mainly down to everyone being the same age.
The training gave me a good basis to work from and I had my BDM to help me if I had any problems.
After the intial group training that was pretty much it.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
It would be a good place to go after university and allow me to gain more experience in the sales industry but I would not consider it as a long term job prospect.
The Culture
As there was a large number (16 placement students in total) of people doing a work placement socialising was good in and out of work as we tended to go out as a group most weekends.
As the weekly wage is low (£75 per week) it does not leave you much money to socialise after a weekly food shop and phone bills. However accomidation and bills are paid for which is essential.
What nightlife! Maidenhead wasnt a good place to go out and the nearest out towns (Reading and Windsor) were a 20 - 25 minute taxi drive which was £10 each way per person!
I went to the gym after work which was all I could afford. There was also a cinema and bowling but that was about it in Maidenhead.
