    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed working in the logistics department for BMW. It was a great working atmosphere, the team was friendly and very helpful and I was treated with respect at any time. The importance of my projects varied from typical tasks for interns to really demanding and interesting projects. All in all, I would definitely recommend my placement and would love to come back at a later time.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I really felt welcome from the beginning onwards. Colleagues always treated me with respect and I could go to everyone when I needed help. We even managed to meet up after work. The atmosphere in the office felt more like we would all be a big family than if we would just be colleagues.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I could always go to my supervisor/manager when I had a concern or problem. The only thing I was missing a bit was to get some feedback during my placement. I never knew if my managers were happy with my work or if they wanted me to change anything. I think it would be a good idea to have a monthly feedback session with your manager/supervisor where such things could be discussed.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • At the beginning of my placement I was a bit bored as I did not have any projects to work on. It started to get better after the first month and suddenly I had a lot to do and was busy all the time. I have never been too busy so after the first month I would say the workload was quite okay.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The level of responsibility varied a great deal depending on the project I was working on. I had some really interesting and demanding tasks but all in all I never had to run the show and also had a lot of tasks that you would expect are typical for an intern.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I really improved my English skills during my placement (especially vocabularies you need in the automotive industry) but also got better in presenting in front of a big team. Additionally I improved my practical knowledge in logistics which will be really helpful for my degree studies.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was a great atmosphere in our office. For one thing it was possible to have fun and make jokes with colleagues but on the other hand you knew that people would help and support each other in difficult situations. It really did more feel like being with family rather than just with working colleagues.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • 4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company really invested in my personal development during my placement. I was invited to every workshop the team participated in and had the chance to spend two training weeks with the team where we not only worked on our team spirit but also had work related training.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Company Car

    International Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Above 25 days holiday

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would really love to come back and work for the BMW Group in the future. For now I have to go back home and finish my degree but I will definitely apply for a job once I have finished my study programme.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Every Thursday all the interns meet at a different pub for the interns meeting. This meeting is used to socialise and to meet new people. Also other events like football matches, bowling, etc. are organised from interns and once you receive the intern newsletters you never have to spend your weekends or spare time alone.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • 3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Oxford has a lot of students and therefore a relatively lively nightlife. There are a lot of nice Pubs, and some clubs that are quite okay.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • 3/5
