About You
I loved every part of the insight! It was a great way to see not only what a career in the legal field would entail, but also to be able to see Shoosmiths' culture and vales applied practically. I only wish it could have been longer.
My assigned team was Real Estate and everyone was so patient with me. My mentor (Monique) initially reassured me that I would not be alone in this process and has delegated several tasks for me to complete individually. The family team also gve me an opportunity to work with them too,
My mentor helped to ensure that summer interns like myself feel confident enough to ask any member of staff for help. She has taken the time to delegate and explain tasks she wants me to complete, and also checked up on me every few hours to make sure I was not feeling overwhelmed. I have talked to other solicitors and client partners during lunch who make sure I am looked after and give advice to help.
I have been able to develop my communication skills as well as my observation for the finer details. I think the main development that has been made is my enthusiasm for this career which now drives me to return to honours and hopefully return to Shoosmiths. Teamwork is obviously a massive part of what Shoosmiths does and so I have also had the experience of collaborating with different colleages who have individual skill sets.
The Company
It was very well organised in terms of who I was mentoring and what department I would be in. Garduate recruitment was very organised too. However not everything goes according to plan due to the nature and business of this sector which is of course understandable. Conversely, I think this helped me integrate into the team better as there was so much to do.
The atmosphere was very open and positive. It was evident that this is a relaxed but still very professional office which I think helps staff morale. Everyone has been incredibly supportive of my week here and my studies at university.
I was treated like a trainee solicitor when delegated tasks and received fair feedback on my work.
It reaffirmed the Shoosmiths culture and core values that would convince anyone to apply for either e.g. placement/traineeship/job. The fact that they care about my mental and phsyical wellbeing was also a large factor in how they operate.
The company culture was at the heart of everything I was asked to do.
The content definetely helped me decide that I want to qualify and become a solicitor (preferably for Shoosmiths).
Everything Else
There were various opportunities presented to me throughout the week whether it was within the office or outwith.
Initially on my first day I was invited to attend a seminar hosted by a client company which was a great experience to attend with the trainees. I was also invited to an end of the month social event however due to personal circumstances I cannot make it.
Through staff notice boards and talking to other colleages, I found out about Shoosmiths' involvement within their local communities and a range of successful ideas,
Definetely!!!
