The Role
The work everyday was seen as a challenge however rewarding. I enjoyed a lot of what I was doing, being able to see the future plans of JLR and the different models in the pipeline is really interesting and exciting to be a part of.
My peers respected me as a person and trusted a lot of the things I had to say. They asked for feedback on what I would do differently as being younger then the rest of the team they were always interested as to how my generation would do things differently.
I was given a high level of support by my manager and had a mentor assigned to me when I first started that aided me throughout my time here, I was given the opportunity to gain an insight into different roles around the business which you wouldn't get at most places.
The majority of the time I was extremely busy with having things many different things to do, there were however times where the work load wasn't as much but this gave me breathing space and allowed me to focus on other areas.
I was given an extremely high level of responsibility. From given the responsibility of doing something from a central behalf that would allow me to change how the different regions around the world would report on their data, to setting up an event that required careful planning to accommodate colleagues that were coming in from different countries.
Before I started I didn't know how to apply certain skills I had learnt through my studies but once I was given training by my colleagues they provided me with effective ways the skills I had. There were times I was unsure of how to do something but they encourage you to ask questions in order to help you overcome such obstacles.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office can be mixed at times. There are times where things get serious however this is always expected due to nature of the business, overall everyone is pretty relaxed and people can always have a good laugh. They encourage hot desking here so it's nice to sit next to different people from time to time and discuss with them what they are doing.
This would be the only thing I can mark JLR down on however I feel that this is just me as there was some discussion once I got here who would be my line manager. Once this had been established I was able to settle in and during my time I was provided a sufficient amount of work to keep me going throughout my year.
There are hundreds of different training materials available for you whilst here. We are encouraged to attend training that will help you improve as a person but also to help you with your role. This may be things to do with managing people, presentation skills to even system training. We are provided funding to learn something new, for example learning a different language, go-karting and even rally driving.

Extremely high, they encourage all the undergraduates on placement to come back onto the graduate scheme due to already having done a year with them. At the end of the year you will sit down with your manager who will review you year with you, if they recommend you then you get priority over assessment centres to have the opportunity to come back.
The Culture
There had been times throughout the year that undergraduates have had a night out. There is a good social scene amongst us however you have to make the effort to get involved. I have socialised with my colleagues and gone for drinks numerous times throughout the year but this can differ as it does depend on your teams willingness to socialise.
I lived in Coventry however isn't great as a place to live. I would recommend living in Leamington Spa which is only a 20 minute drive to Whitley and is a lot more pleasant. I would typically pay around £410 and that included rent and bills. Leamington spa however isn't too much more but would be worth it. Socialising in my area wasn't too hard as there was a pub but this was still a long walk to get there.
The nightlife in Coventry is dead, I would recommend catching the train to Birmingham which is only £5 and is a lot nicer, if this is too far then again Leamington Spa is a very nice place to go for drinks. Coventry does have a nightlife thanks to the student population but the clubs are not the best (only comparing to nightlife to where my uni is in Bristol).
As mentioned before the company provide up to £200 funding each year to encourage to go and get involved in an activity of your choice from a long list. The company call it ELS which whilst on placement you will receive this funding twice. There are obviously the team activities that happen outside work like Christmas Dinners.
