    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My placement with BMW was exciting and challenging. It allowed me to explore many different business areas, develop great working relationships and further my skill set.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I worked very closely with my team and department. I was given great responsibility day-to-day, managing projects myself. I was also included in social activities outside of work.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager was a great help throughout my placement year, guiding me with weekly one-to-one meetings and being approachable. The rest of the team were also very supportive and made me feel comfortable and confident.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • At the beginning and end of my placement I was incredibly busy with the Events season, however throughout the rest of the year it was a good balance of keeping busy and remaining de-stressed.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Despite working for a large company, I was given a great amount of responsibility throughout my placement. I was able to manage my own projects as well as elements within larger projects, and I was respected within the team.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My placement year has been the best part of my degree, allowing me to put into place the theory studied and skills developed. I am confident I will do well in my final year because of the skills developed and in my future career due to the connections made.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Open plan offices and flexible working meant that you sit next to a different person or team every day. The atmosphere is very relaxed with no dress code so everyone feels authentic. And there is always cake!

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There were some issues at the beginning of my placement with induction and contracts however once that was resolved, the organisation of the rest of the placement was great.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I took part in team training events throughout my placement, however there was little in the way of organised training for myself. Despite this, my manager and I worked together to create goals and objectives to further my development throughout my placement.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    National Travel

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • BMW is a great company to work for because of the opportunities their roles present.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • BMW takes on over 20 placement students who often end up living together. Throughout the year there are nights out, BBQs, day trips to theme parks etc all organised by the students. It is great for making those who live at home or elsewhere feel included.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Being so close to London, the area is quite expensive for food and drink as well as accommodation. A lot of students end up living further afield to find cheaper accommodation. However, the annual salary is enough to cover these costs.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in Farnborough itself is non-existent however BMW is close enough to Fleet, Camberley, Guildford and Reading so they are the go-to places for a night out.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The communications team present lots of opportunities to volunteer, work with charities, take part in sports and leisure activities as well as running fairs at Christmas and in the Summer.

    5/5
