The Role
I always enjoyed it but there were moments of high stress within it
I felt as though I was treated as a real scientist and given responsibilities as such but they were always around if when I needed help or reassurance
I was supported throughout by my supervisor and the rest of my team
Some days I was very busy. It would go in spells with very busy and very quiet periods. This was quite good in some ways as I could do more research and write ups for Universtity during the quiet periods
I was given a lot of responsibility whilst I was here
I think the skills I learnt here, both in the lab and interpersonally will really help me back at uni and in applying for jobs or a PhD after graduation. It will put me ahead of many people especially in the lab based dissertation next year as I won't have to spend much time picking up the initial lab skills
The Company
I think some areas even within one office have different atmospheres. I never feel uncomfortable in the office but some areas seem to be more willing to have a laugh
The placement within AstraZeneca is well set up. There are many things to get involved in which involve both interns and graduate scheme students as well as PhD students and Postdocs. this is a great way to learn about other areas of the business and meet your peers (network).
I have had training in a large amount of the equipment, even things I don't generally use. Everyone is willing to show you new skill or piece of kit etc.
