    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement year at IBM, The office was based in Southbank which was one of the most motivating parts of london to work in. I was able to network with others and enjoyed the feeling of the work lifestyle. I enjoyed the opportunity to work at a client site which had a very different environment.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt really valued by my colleagues. I was provided a lot of support from the members of my team who were based in the UK, they essentially acted as a mentor to me and always helped me with any query I had or any assistance i required. The offshore team also provided me with valuable support with my daily tasks.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was always provided support for any help i required and felt like i was provided guidance whenever I was struggling or needed to be pointed in the right direction. This was the support provided by my Task Manager. Additional support was provided by the Early Professional Manager who would review our placement year and acted as a tutor.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Depended on the time in the month and according to when significant changes within the contract took place. at times i was free and looking for additional tasks I could help out with, but there were days where I ended up being quite busy. I had routines tasks which I had complete daily as well as monthly tasks. I also was often given ad hoc tasks.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given the sole responsibility to manage the Commercial Business Office which involved dealing with queries and resolving issues. I had to respond swiftly to keep the inbox under control. I also trained myself to use the main risk tool required for Risk Management. I was responsible for the admin side of the tool aswell as providing training to clients and other IBMers.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I was provided training which directly affected my job. This training was of a high standard and helped me learn more about the company globally. There were opportunities for me to sign up for excel work shops which helped me gain skills I will carry with me for the future. Through opportunities I was able to take part in a Presentation at the Executive Boardroom which helped gain some presentation skills and confidence
