The Role
I enjoyed my placement very much. My whole team were very friendly and supportive from the first day on the job and HR provided me with enough support to begin with to get me going for my placement. I was given a lot of tasks to complete, both tedious but also interesting and so I was never bored throughout my placement. Would be very happy to come back given the positive experience I had.
From the very first day I felt like I was an integral part of the team. I was given a lot of positive introductions and really enjoyed speaking to my team throughout my placement. I was given a lot of important tasks to complete which made me feel valued. I was invited to take part in a lot of discussions and allowed to share my opinions and make important decisions.
I was given a mentor at the start of my placement which organised monthly meetings which I used to talk with him about different things occurring throughout my placement. My mentor also organised shadowing sessions with different areas of the business and allowed me to speak to senior colleagues. My manager was also very supportive and provided me with all the appropriate training to allow me to work at my full potential.
I was never bored on the job. I was given a lot of interesting and complex tasks to complete which could take from a few minutes to a few days. Some days were repetitive but the tasks on these days were necessary and introduced me to different concepts and techniques which allowed me to be more efficient when completing tasks throughout the rest of my placement.
I was invited to take part in a lot of important discussions and allowed to share my opinions (both good and bad) throughout these sessions. I was given my own side project to work on throughout my placement which I enjoyed and was also given a lot of responsibility for the main project as well.
At first we were given some basic financial training which was useful for the job and then throughout my placement I was given training by my team which built up my interpersonal and technical skills. These skills will definitely help me in the later steps of my career and throughout my degree when I return next year.
The Company
Throughout the last year there were a lot of key events which affected the market and this could be seen throughout the office as moods and busyness varied during different times of my placement. My team in general were very happy to have me and I have had an all round positive experience.
HR were very supportive to begin with and provided me with enough information at the start of my placement. I was given a lot of support from different people and felt like I could act to my full potential. The interview and assessment centre process was also very thorough and smooth.
I was given a lot of people's time who gave me 1 to 1 technical and on the job training. My manager was very patient with me in trying to build up my financial and business knowledge. There were also a number of interpersonal skill sessions. Additional training was also available through the e-learning portal.

A lot of different opportunities with different teams in the IT division. A strong career framework with the company looking to invest in the future. My team in general seem to be very happy to have me and I would love to come back and work with them again. The bank seems to be going in a good direction.
The Culture
There were some social events with other placement students at the beginning which then seemed to decrease throughout the year. Our team had weekly social events which was nice.
Food, drinks, transport and entertainment is more expensive. I commuted from home and so saved a little from not working in London
The pubs around had a good atmosphere although the drinks are expensive.
There are lots of volunteering opportunities and sports activities that you can take part in.
