About You
It was really good. Friendly people and variety of work and experiences. Got to work closely with a Partner.
I felt like I was useful and people were happy to get me involved in the work. It didn't feel like they were searching for something for me to do.
Great support from the team I sat with as well as HR staff. Regular talks meant you could also touch base regularly with fellow vac schemers.
I think the vac scheme was less about developing skills as it was only two weeks. It was more about getting to experience what life would be like as a trainee solicitor. Having said this, my research skills are improving and I believe that is a regular task for trainees.
The Company
I enjoyed the regular talks. There was also a number of social events planned.
Great! Very friendly and enthusiastic. Also everyone was laid back. I felt the trainees spoke honestly about their experiences.
We got training in IT to understand software. I think the vac scheme is less about developing skills and more about experiencing life as a solicitor and working in a law firm.
In two weeks you are of course limited in what you can get involved in, but I think that talking to trainees definitely gave me an idea of what it would be like. Also some of the tasks I was given, such as research and putting together documents gave me a flavour of life as a trainee. I also got to meet clients and get involved in phone calls to them. I think this gave me a good idea about what life as a solicitor is like.
Lots of opportunities to talk to trainees which gave a real insight to company culture,
Further confirmed that I want to do international commercial law
Everything Else
Paid well
Lots of opportunities to meet people and talk to trainees. In terms of the seats I sat in the people in the team were always happy to talk to me
Good fun and just the right amount. I know some vac schemes have socials every night that you are expected to attend but the vac scheme can be tiring so I think that having 2 evening socials 1 each week and then some lunches was the perfect amount as it did not leave me feeling exhausted in the day.
We were told about the sports teams and CRS programmes/ probono opportunities.
I had a great experience, I got really involved with the teams and tasks were really varied.
